Distribution of Newly Sanctioned Houses by Vertical

The houses approved in the latest meeting have been distributed across different verticals of PMAY-U 2.0:
VerticalHouses Approved
Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC) Around 1.66 lakh
Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)Around 1.09 lakh
Affordable Rental Housing (ARH)Around 13,000
Total

Around 2.88 lakh

Note: The vertical-wise figures are rounded and therefore may not add up exactly to the total sanctioned number of 2,87,618 houses.

What Are the Three Verticals Under PMAY-U 2.0

  • Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC): Under BLC, beneficiaries receive financial assistance to construct or enhance their own homes. This vertical accounts for the largest share of approvals in this round.
  • Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP): AHP promotes partnerships between government authorities and private developers to create affordable housing projects within urban areas, ensuring better access to city infrastructure and services.
  • Affordable Rental Housing (ARH): ~13,000 rental homes (12,846 to be precise) have been approved under ARH. The Ministry has been actively promoting rental housing to cater to migrants, industrial workers, working women, construction workers, homeless individuals, and other vulnerable urban groups.

Demonstration Housing Projects to Promote Modern Construction

The CSMC also cleared three Demonstration Housing Projects (DHPs) in Chhattisgarh, Puducherry, and Rajasthan. Each project will consist of 40 dwelling units and will showcase innovative, cost-effective, and durable construction technologies. These projects are expected to serve as replicable models for large-scale adoption across India.

Strong Focus on Women and Vulnerable Groups

The scheme continues to prioritize inclusivity and social equity:
CategoryHouses Sanctioned
Women (including widows, unmarried, separated women) 1.60+ lakh
Transgender Beneficiaries8
Senior Citizens22,581
SC Beneficiaries35,525
ST Beneficiaries9,773
OBC Beneficiaries82,190
Importantly, around 96% of the total 13.61 lakh houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 are either registered in the name of the female head of household or under joint ownership in key verticals, underlining the scheme's focus on women's empowerment.

Building on the Success of PMAY-U

PMAY-U 2.0 builds upon the foundation laid by the earlier Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban, launched in 2015.
  • Total Houses Sanctioned Since 2015 - 122.50 lakh
  • Pucca Houses Completed & Delivered - 97+ lakh
Over the years, the mission has significantly improved the living standards of urban poor and middle-class families by providing secure housing, strengthening social security, and improving access to healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.

Conclusion

The approval of around 2.88 lakh additional houses in the sixth CSMC meeting marks strong momentum under PMAY-U 2.0, taking total sanctioned homes beyond 13.61 lakh. With continued focus on women ownership, vulnerable groups, rental housing, and modern construction practices, authorities are urged to accelerate implementation and ensure timely delivery, bringing the vision of affordable and dignified housing for all urban families closer to reality.
